On Your Mark: Introduction To My Triathlon Journey

Marti Kropko at the finish line

Just to clear it up, how did I meet triathlon?

Altough both of my parents were professional triathletes, suprisingly they didn’t choose triathlon for me, neither for my siblings. When I was around three years old, they started bringing me and my brother to a swim educator, only because of safety reasons. It would have been boring and awkward during vacations if we couldn’t swim, right? Most of you don’t know, but I have been folk dancing until I was around 9 years old. So there were the folk-dance lesson days, and there were swim training days. It was hard juggling with both, but I loved doing them next to eachother. I developed in swimming and in dancing, and doing both sports on a higher level wasn’t possible. When the decision came - yes, you guessed it right - I chose swimming. Just after I finished dancing I had 8-9 swim trainings per week with races on the weekends. At that point I started at a few triathlon/aquathlon races, it was all fun and it was an experience for sure! But I had no running nor bike trainings. When I was 10, running trainings came in to the picture with one training a week. The main focus was still on swimming, but the desire to start and finish triathlons didn’t stop, moreover it got stronger. Me and My brother as folk dancers

So I’m doing triathlon, but what about this blog?

A few years back I’ve been writing a blog, it was published once in a month, and I loved writing it. It’s been an awesome thing to collect my experiences, thoughts and feelings and write them down. No surprise, when I was younger I wanted to be a Journalist. It changed since then, but writing things out, and maybe inspiring, entertaining or helping others with it, is motivating me. The birth of my website gave a platform to start a blog, and now here I am.

Plans, ideas, future…

Most importantly I want to tell stories through this blog, not just mine, but other triathlete’s stories aswell. You will find interviews with both upcoming and elite athletes. Race summaries will take the major part, I will write about pre/during/post-race feelings, how the tactics turned out, and what I learned. And last but not at least, I would like to give insight to our beloved sport, triathlon. Training and race tips and I’m sure I will write about things that happen around the triathlon world.

Thank you for taking the time to read my first blog post. I will write as often as I can, so it worth coming back once in a while. If you found a mistake or have an idea for the future, please do not hesitate to reach out to me on the given platforms!

See Ya! :)
